Joell Ortiz – Farewell Summer EP [Download]

While I’d rather be posting theYAOWA mixtape or listening to Free Agent right, I can’t be mad at Joell for releasing something to tide us over until then those projects are released. New (and free) music from Joell Ortiz is still new (and free) music from Joell Ortiz. Plus with production from the likes of Don Cannon, Statik Selektah, & Premier as well as guest spots from Sheek, Talib Kweli, Brother Ali, & Jean Grae, this is definitely worth a listen.
Sidenote: Why does this cover look like a gospel album?

1. Intro
2. Murder (Produced by Statik Selektah)
3. Battle Cry (Produced by The Audible Doctor)
4. Sing Like Bilal (remix) (feat. Sheek Louch) (Produced by DJ Premier)
5. So Wrong (feat. Talib Kweli, Brother Ali, & Jean Grae) (Produced by Frank Dukes)
6. Farewell Summer (Produced by Don Cannon)

      1. Lil’ B has his material cut up: he has a third pretty meaningful shit, a third fun, swagged out shit with awesome beats, and a third based freestyles. Each part has a certain appeal to it, and Lil B sounds good at what he does.

Joell Ortiz just tries to revive the 90s with sub-par punchlines and the most obnoxious voice in hip hop.

      2. Lil B = Creative, meaningful and hilarous all at the same time

Joell Ortiz = boring rhymes, constant misinterpretation of what made hip hop good, annoying as shit voice.

        1. “I’m so disappointted in you new rap guys”

Did you say meaningful and Lil’ B in the same sentence? That had to be a typo. You good people Mr. Jones, but you gotta be like 12 years old (No diss. I’m serious).

How is Joell a constant misinterpretation of what made Hip-Hop good? He’s just a guy that can rap his ass off. He doesn’t need shock value saying he looks like Jesus or calling his self a “pretty bitch” (Anybody that can get passed the whole “pretty bitch” thing with Lil’ B gets looked at funny by me. I’m just saying. Tight pants, calling men pretty. You see where this is going…).

Have you heard “Swag O.D.” with Lil’ B and Soulja Boy? You condone that shit? That shit takes talent?

Okay, listen to this verse and tell me if Lil’ B ever spit ANYTHING remotely close to being this creative or talented:

          http://usershare.net/mz4n9w3iwze0

          “Just be easy, buddy relax
please don’t have me bloody my axe
Or revvin’ my chainsaw to sever your brain off
With no concentration I’m better than Adolf
Never been laid off, forever put in work
Beats and skeets I fucked every bitch that ever said I was a jerk
It’s like you cuter when you work manuevers
Got every dot com in my palm and Iunno how to work computers
Yeah it’s true Slaughterhouse, I know you heard the rumors
That’s true but in ’02 every verse was ruder
          Then you worthless losers
So we formed a four alien alliance, just dying to earth intruders
Everybody’s a president, bunch of Herbert Hoovers
If what I said had legs it could burn a cougar
Speaking of burn, I’m Hip-Hops 60 shots of Henny on the rocks
You egg-nog with a squirt of Kaluha
Can’t lie it’s mad fun being Zoned
My straight your lean liek Gumby’s dome
A lot of guys don’t want me on
But as long as I get in the spot with my fist my gun be home
I will beats you dudes like you stole from moms
In an audience of shows I just fold my arms
I’m so disappointted in you new rap guys
I’m like no! C’mon, how did he do that..? Why?
Oh no, and diggy do that though
          I’m MC so-and-so where’s my ringtone dough
See that ain’t gon cut it as long as I’m around
That goes for every: thing, person or place that describes a noun
          It’s J-O-E-double what I never take,
Whoever feel they can gimme my first one then set a date
I’ll be there like a young Mike Jack
Hip-Hop prayed and God gave Pun right back!”

Honestly, is it any real comparison?

          1. hey lets whine about how new rappers suck! original

have you heard any Lil’ B besides “I’m a Martian” and all of his swag shit? dude has meaningful songs. You’re just as ignorant as most rap fans for not looking that shit up. “Age of Information”, “Pull Up Ya Pants”, “Heartbreak”, ect. Tons of shit.

Joell Ortiz has talent, but serious the dudes just another fucking mixtape rapper. Internal rhyme here, internal rhyme there, complain about new rappers here, make a reference i got from wikipedia here. Plus he’s got like, what, ten years on B. Besides, Ortiz is just emulating Big Pun, a rapper way more inventive and creative than Ortiz will ever be.

B is being himself, Ortiz is trying to live in Pun’s image.

          2. That’s what you don’t understand. I’ve heard all those songs BUT they sound good and “so meaningful” after hearing all of the swag bullshit he does. And when did we start dismissing a kind a music a rapper makes? That swag shit Lil’ B makes got to be taken in account just as much as his “deeper” tracks.

About me being ignorant. Okay. Whatever. I try and listen to EVERYTHING. You have no idea. But if you saying all Joell Ortiz is a mixtape rapper aren’t you doing the same thing you accused me of doing to Lil’ B (Check out tracks like “Call Me” and tell that couldn’t be on the radio). Plus, Joell has sold more records that Lil’ B so who’s really a mixtape or internet rapper (The Pack got dropped for a reason. 2,000 in the first week. Slaughterhouse = 18,000 first week.)

And it’s not like I got a problem with Lil’ B. I’ve got his number and have actually talked to him on the phone. He seems like a nice guy but I just don’t like his music.

          3. you’re getting at me for liking Lil B and not liking this guy. I’ve listened to both a lot, but i just am not a fan of Joell Ortiz and i like Lil B. Sue me for liking the stuff i like.

          4. “I’m so disappointted in you new rap guys
I’m like no! C’mon, how did he do that..? Why?
Oh no, and diggy do that though
            I’m MC so-and-so where’s my ringtone dough”

He said it correctly on Onslaught.
            Sorry but Joell>Lil B anyday.

Joell stands for something besides Swag and that based bullshit

        2. Psssh, B- Easy you tripping, who needs witty and creative punchlines when you’re dropping classis lines like “I’m a pretty bitch” and “Girls on my dick cuz i look like Jesus?”
