2010 Mixtape Of The Year: Friday Night Lights

This year J. Cole takes this award. It is somewhat of a bitter sweet victory for everyone who supports Cole. Many people, including myself, were anticipating the possibility of this young NC rapper to be in the Album of the Year discussion. Although that pleasure may not happen until the next award ceremony, we must give Cole his props by staying relevant and dropping the best mixtape this year (And maybe the best complete body of work). Jermaine displayed the lyrical ability that makes us believe he will be here for years to come. His utter honesty and brash delivery is like a breathe of fresh air, and he displayed these attributes on Friday Night Lights. It’s a Cole World.

Runner Up: K.R.I.T. Wuz Here

  1. Woah, Wale should have been winner or runner up, he and Cole had the best mixtapes of the year by far in my opinion

      1. How many of y’all actually heard the whole mixtape? Every song is good to great lyrically and he covers lots of subjects. Wale’s songs aren’t as blatantly lyrical and I think his rhymes might be going over y’all heads. I haven’t heard K.R.I.T’s mixtape though so maybe it is that good but Wale’s was at least top 5 of the year.

If he doesn’t win the award for best radio flippit I’m gonna spazz..

          1. I love everything he makes he’s proably my fav rapper right now but his tape wasnt better than FNL or KRIT Waz Here to be honest

  2. Can’t argue with that. Haha Wale is mad underrated i think but not the best mixtape of the year… I would put in Smokee Robinson and Kush & OJ as runners-up too

      1. What?! nothing tops FNL but spitta and wiz put out dope mixtapes. i bumped both those shits almost all year. maybe i smoke too much shiiii

  3. This is a good victory on behalf of the Cole fans. Specially after the last snub when The Warm Up should have beaten So Far Gone.

But I’m going to go as far as saying if this was an actual album, that it should have won album of the year. Yes I think this mixtape is better than Kanye’s album. I welcome all challengers. Cole only had a handful of features and did most of the production on this mixtape and delivered a near Illmatic (not to actually compare it to Illmatic but to compare it to the classic feeling of Illmatic). This should have gotten a 4.5 easily

  4. The Warm Up is like 10x better than Friday Night Lights.

I know I will get hate for this but the tape that I was able to spin the most this past year was Wiz’s Kush & OJ. That shit was fresh.

  5. yeah, I wanted KRIT, but I aint mad at Cole either.

lets not forget, wasnt Roth’s Seared Foie Gras early 2010?

Wale, Wiz….lotta good mixtapes this year

      1. agreed^^^

you mentioned Freddie Gibbs eariler didnt ya RJB? that shit was crazy good, dunno how that doesnt rate higher with summa these cats

shit, I forgot, PILL put out The Overdose last year, that shit was pretty ill too.
didnt the Cool Kids release one too? fuck…

I’m gunna go find a list of ALL 2010 mixtapes because I think we’re all missing some.
I’ll throw it in the forum

  6. Yo I just remebered something. The convo we had about mixtape of the year last year when Drake won. I said that Drake didnt have the best mixtape and if J Cole had the hype Drake had he would have won, now here come’s next years award J Cole builds more hype and wins mixtape of the year! Im not saying he didnt deserve it though

  7. Gotta give Cole the nod on this one. Some of the tapes that got the most play for me this year were Curren$y’s “Smokee Robinson”, Mac Miller’s “K.I.D.S”, Wiz’s “Kush & OJ”, and Chris Webby’s “Best In the Burbs” (DO NOT SLEEP ON THE WHIT KID FROM C.T.!!) But yeah Friday Night Lights could have been in the running for album of the year..

    1. oh yeah, I forgot about K.I.D.S, that shit was pretty fresh (“Ride Around” was my shit). I dont know Chris Webby tho, so I cant comment on that. (I know the other Webbie…). as long as we’re talkin’ peckerwood emcees, Kyle Lucas had a mixtape last year (I think) that was too bad.

  8. I think ya’ll on his dick just a little…Feel me I am a fan of J Cole, but I cant listen to FNL all the way through… I can only listen to about 12 of the 20 tracks, and that involves the intro, looking for trouble, higher, villematic, & In The Morning (the last 3 are all older tracks). He even put Back To The Topic which is a year and some change old…. if he cut it down, and kept the more memorable tracks, then I wouldnt mind him being NOMINATED.

But that Finally Famous Vol. 3?

    1. FNL > FF v.3 Just for a quick response

I can listen to the whole mixtape through except for maybe 3 or 4 tracks. Shit is classic material. Fuck what they say

  9. I think ppl just on his dick a lil too much…mixtape was decent…that’s it.

All I said was finally famous vol 3…all yall mentioning and comparing it smh. Fans are gonna be the death of music

  10. K.R.I.T wuz here killed friday night lights
That shiit blew me a away
Also str8 killa was better then FNL quality over quanity
    Warm up>FNL
    Kinda was a let dwn
