Kanye West & Jay-Z – “Otis”

You know, it’s takes a lot for Otis Redding’s “Try A Little Tenderness” to start playing and for me NOT to automatically think of that scene in Pretty In Pink. But this shit right here? No problem. This shit is just hard.

For three minutes, Jigga and Yeezy go back and forth over the Otis Redding sample and kill it. No hook. Just killing it.

Produced by Kanye West.

You excited for August 8th yet?

[Jay-Z]
Sounds so soulful don’t you agree
I invented swag
Poppin bottles putting supermodels in the cab
Proof
I guess I got my swagger back
Truth. New watch alert, Hublot’s
Or the big face Rollie I got two of those
Arm out the window through the city I maneuver slow
Cock back, snap back
See my cut through the holes

[Kanye West]
Damn Yeezy and Hov,
Where the hell ya been?
Niggas talkin real reckless: stuntman
I adopted these niggas, Phillip Drummond them
Now I’m bout to make them tuck they whole summer in
They say I’m crazy but I’m ’bout to go dumb again
They aint see me cause I pulled up in my other Benz
Last week I was in my other other Benz
Throw your diamonds up cause we in this bitch and up again

[Jay-Z]
Photo shoot fresh
Looking like wealth
I’m about to call the paparazzi on myself
Uh, live form the Mercer, run up on Yeezy the wrong way
I might murk ya
Flee in the G450 I might surface
Political refugee asylum can be purchased
Uh, everythings for sale, I got 5 passports
I’m never going to jail

[Kanye West]
I made Jesus walks so never going to hell
Couture level flow is never going on sale
Luxury rap, the Hermes of verses
Sophisticated ignorance
Write my curses in cursive
I get it custom
You a customer
You aint accustomed to going through customs
You aint been nowhere huh?
And all the ladies in the house got them showing off
I’m done I hit ya up, manana!

[Jay-Z]
Welcome to Havanna
Smoking Cubana’s with Castro in Cabana’s
Viva Mexico, Cubana, Dominicano
All the plugs that I know
Driving Benz’s, With no benefits
Not bad huh? for some immigrants
Build your fences, we diggin’ tunnels
Can’t you see we gettin money up under you

[Kanye]
Can’t you see the private jets flying over you
Maybach bumper sticker read “What would Hova do?”
Jay is chillin, Ye is chillin
What more can I say
We killin’ ‘em
Hold up before we in this campaign
As you can see we bodied the damn lames
Lord please let them accept the things they cant change
And pray that all of their pain be champagne

  1. Man this is dope as hell.. I forgot the name of the sample of the Otis Redding song but I have it in my collection. Man….. Jay-Z & Kanye got a gem on their hands with this effort. See songs like this remind me on why I liked Jay-Z as a emcee… I hope Kanye continue to make some dope ass beats like this again even though it wasn’t really nothing he did with this besides chopped the sample up and loop it around. I’m looking forward to this album… This sound way better than that HAM shit

  2. I’m gonna wait for the album to drop before I listen to the whole thing. It’s two weeks away, and the finished product is supposed to be ridiculous.

      1. That picture is epic… But real talk man Jay-Z actually did good on this song. I’m very impressed. If Jay keep making shit like this on this level I’ll be a fan of Jay-Z again.

      2. Not on every song…I think Jay got him on Monster and So Appalled. They’re equals imo; like Jay said, some days Pau is going to have a better game than Kobe, and vice versa. But you need both to make the Lakers what they are.

          1. Jay had the second best verse on that, behind Nicki.

Jay also had the best verse on Free Mason. He demolishes Rozay

          2. yeah but B-Easy, thats about as impressive as outrapping a retarded rabbit… or Big Sean

    1. usually we don’t agree, but this is seriously something we agree so hard on.

Kanye keeps on murdering Jay, and Ye isn’t even doing what he can.

The beat is so epic that i forgive anything on the bad rapping front from Jay on this song.

  3. Ever since Run This Town Ye has consistently killed Jay except on Hate.. There was on winner on Hate.. just lots and lots of confused rap fans..

  4. fuckin’ craziness. The Big O was such a legend…
that was one of my favorite songs to do at karaoke back in Memphis

I’m too hype for this album, its either gon’ be a damn-near classic,
or Best of Both Worlds Part 2 *snicker*

    1. We always talk about rappers rappin’ about shit they on….so yeah, he on that money. Jay can tell stories tho so I wish he’d do some of that.

        1. Did you just use diversity and Jay-Z in the same sentence? HA!

this is your standard Hov rap:

“I’m rich, I’m over here in my yacht, in my expensive shoes, I got on expensive clothes, with my bad bitch, drinking some shit that you can’t afford. I’m the best to ever do it, I’m rich.”

And ya’ll niggas eat it up. SMH

    2. For what this song was, I don’t know what people expected Jay-Z to rap about. I mean, for the song, the subject matter fits. It’s funny though, Kanye has been on that “Luxury Rap” shit for a minute now and everybody is loves that, Jay does it and dudes roll their eyes.

      1. Co-sign everybody making sense. I don’t have the energy to argue with Jerm anymore. Not even wild for the night anymore, more like wild for weeks. Get your hating card validated son. Also read a review once, rapradar got all the WTT advance reviews and they mention there being real weighty topics on the album from both. This was described as the most “rap-ish” of the tracks, what with the back and forth, genius call to release this and not Lift off (which is supposed to be like all of the lights). radio will eat that up later but to jumpstart the hype they needed this. Can’t wait til the 1st.

        1. Good…don’t argue with me. Just because I didn’t bust a nut when I heard the song like you, means I’m a hater? I probably got more Jay shit than you! Next time your young ass jump off the porch and try to slapbox with the God, you might want to know how to fight.

          1. This nigga…lol
Ya’ll already know Jerm trying to get the best of ya’ll. I think that Jerm is the biggest Jay-Z stan of them all.

          2. You don’t have more Jay than me son. Your perception of hot and murder when it comes to dude is way left. You never got over the retirement and decided to just hate your way all thru the post-black album years. Everybody is done slapboxing with you, go and wait for that Ferrari Boyz. Peace, God.

          3. Disrespectin the game, no home trainin or manners
I was doin this shit when you was shittin Pampers
I was movin them grams ‘fore you, knew what a hand that hand was
Duckin the vans, radars, the scanners
‘Fore you knew what hard white to tame was
I was hittin the turnpike, aight with the bammers
I was nice with my hands, cuss aight with them hammers
I was prickin my finger ‘fore you knew what a Fam was
I had it laid out ‘fore you knew what a plan was
Three hundred mill’ later, now you understand us
Y’all ain’t see us comin through Vegas
You ever seen so much cham’ bust in one night
            Grand fucked up one fight
I was on the Peter Pan bus
You was Peter Pan up in your room, y’all fuckin with whom?

          4. So you’re quoting Watcher 2 why exactly? Are you one of those “niggas that want the old shit and need to buy the old albums?” That’s a classic Jay verse but the point is he has had some classic ones these days too. Inarguably great. I think you like to be the lone voice of dissent, on everything. Don’t be mad cuz I call you on it

          5. I called you on being the voice of dissent on everything Jay since I been coming to this site [Kingdom Come review] but just having comments that ppl easily poke holes in, no real points. You don’t have to prove anything to me tho, posting Blueprint 2 bars and the like, it’s between you and your rap gods. What’s a Richard? A dick? I am admittedly a Stanley…but sometimes I just don’t get the animosity the god gets thrown at him

          6. Not just posting lyrics…that’s real life. I was doing this shit while you was still in pampers.

You not bout that life…you just a fan.

      2. Cuz dudes are hypocrites, and nobody seemed to care when Jay was bragging on Feeling It back in 96. Honestly Wayne, Drake, Ross and several others brag ALL THE TIME and nobody seems to care. Every song can’t be some political stuff or song about kids in poverty (Unless your name is Immortal Technique..)

  5. Sample is insane, Ye is ill as hell. Jay was nice, but yeah, Ye got this one. I recently heard someone say Kanye was overrrated…I think the nigga is st that good. Long way fro that auntie team shit.

  6. I’d also like to point out that there’s a diff btwn murder and out-shining. Tallied up, Kanye prolly walks away with the most quotables. But do you want to skip Jay’s parts? Does it sound like he shouldn’t even be on it?? Cuz that’s what murder means to me
