2011 BET Hip Hop Awards Cyphers [Videos]

Seriously, the cyphers are the only reason to watch the BET Hip Hop Awards. Next year they should have only cyphers and just scroll at the bottom of the screen who won the awards. Or better yet, just throw out the awards show all together and just keep the cyphers. You listening Debra L. Lee?

The cyphers were mostly good this year (I think this is the most BET has ever had). The one thing that’s funny is that Ross & Maybach Music had the best one. Until Shady 2.0 came up. It’s kinda unfair though since Em’s crew got longer verses as well a different location and a different beat.

  1. If MMG was given a different beat and longer bars do you really think they would have killed it like Shady 2.0…..don’t think so. Thats why Shady got more time and a different beat. Lets be real here….

  2. SLAUGHTER HOUSE!!!!!!!! JOE BUDDEN KILLED THAT SHIT THE WHOLE SLAUGHTER HOUSE FAMILY READY TO TAKE OUT EVERY OTHER RAPPER ,Y FAVORITE RAPPERS ARE NO EXCEPTS!!!! LIL WAYNE !!! BUT DMX IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCK ALL YALL WHO AINT WITH THE SHADY 2.0 MOVEMENT I WILL KIL U MYSELF

  3. So they threw a bunch of nobodies on a lullaby beat…good thing you posted this B, I was having trouble sleeping. You’re right about Meek Mill though, he was the only one who sounded half-way genuine in the first six cyphers. Em shat on everyone…he pretty much made his point with that “lyrical miracle criminal” thing – that’s what every whack ass rapper before him was doing. Crooked I was the only standout besides those two. Someone needs to fire Primo though.

    1. ARe you guys stupid…….Kendrick lamar big krit and joe budden did way better than Eminem everyone else was trash besides crooked i

  4. A SO JOE BUDDEN GETS NO LOVE !!! 0_0 .. B !!!!! WHO IS THIS NIGHA!!! IM FINNA GET UPSET LIKE A BLACK COLLEGE BEATING NOTRE DAME IN SOUTH BEN

  5. whoever is giving MMG a pass cause the beat doesnt suit them is wack, thats what hip hop is…that proves my point that people are sheep…dj lp that excuse was lame as fuck…shady 2.0 is the best money aint everything repsect goes a long way

    1. I don’t know, I thought the MMG cypher was good (Although Stalley still seems out of place to me). Ross & Company went against what most people think about these “type” of rappers. Yea they floss and wear a shit ton of jewelry, but here they are taking it back to the essence in a cypher. Kinda cool.

    2. Excuse me? Did you even read anything I wrote? No where in any of my posts on this article did I write or even come up with an excuse that is lame as fuck.

Read your shit before you drop any names

  6. Oh yea, Royce may have had the best verse of the night:

“I’m do or die dope and you can make the sticker sittin
On the door of that Phantom, your suicide note
Hi Rihanna.. is Nicki living with you?
Let me know so I can buy binoculars and telescopes
Hi Rihanna.. I don’t need to know you better
You tell me you love my music again? We go together
Bye Rihanna.. now back to y’all fools
We rock out like the outside of a guitar school
Thousand dollar frames, I prefer to see the world through
Don’t ask me nothing about Budden, I beat my girl too”

    1. Willow Smith? SMH! Naw we can do without Roc Nation besides J Cole. I doubt Jay-Z would even do anything like this now. He act like he is too good for stuff like this in the 2000’s era.

      1. Honestly, that cypher probably would’ve been pretty weak. It was weird not having Wayne, Drake or NIcki at the show though

        1. I don’t think it would’ve been weak at all. Wayne, Nicki, Cory Gunz, and Jae Millz (he was a battle rapper) would have a nice performance.

          1. Hmm.. I’ll give you Cory & Jae Millz. But 2011 Wayne? Nah he would’ve been average unless he was in “6 Foot, 7 foot” mode. Nicki probably would’ve went in, maybe Drake.

  7. Em, Budden, & Royce > KRIT, Tech n9ne, Busta & The Rest of Shady > MMG & Luda > Everybody else.

.. Imll need to play Kendrick’s verse for like 3 days before I can give the verdict on that one

    .. “Hi Rihanna..”

      1. Yeah I don’t think anybody ever freestyles at the cyphers, rappers have just started writing new verses for them.

          1. ^^^so doesn’t that just FURTHER prove it was written? I mean, if it sounds like some shit he said before in the same type of setting…shit was probably written. no?

          2. All of that stuff was written man. That’s what Skillz was upset about and he got an interview dissing folks who was on that cypher. He said they had re-record some of the same freestyles over since people kept messing up

          3. I’m pretty sure the stuff he said on “Microphone” (The 2nd beat) was written. Hence why it was so much better than what he said on the other two beats. I’ve heard Eminem spit writtens on radio shows before and I’m pretty sure he still does, now he just writes new verses instead of using ones he’s already recorded.

  8. Alright…I have to admit…I was digging the Shady 2.0 cypher minus Crooked I.

MMG cypher was straight…Meek and Rozay bodied it.

    C. Breezy, Tyga, and Ace did their thing

K.R.I.T continued to impress as well as the nigga Tech N9ne.

Did anyone else notice all the shots niggas was taking at Jay during the cyphers?

      1. Budden said “I’m not watching the throne, I’m sabotaging it”

I’m pretty sure there were more but the only cypher I’ve listened to more than once is the Shady one

  9. Cyphers I would love to see: Rocafella reunion (Jay, Beans, Freeway, and Bleek), Dipset, New West (Kendrick Lamar, Fashawn, Blu, and Jay Rock).

  10. I would love to see 2Pac on it if he was alive, that would be epic. Nas, Black Thought, Phonte & 8Ball should have did the cypher this time around. I do agree with the Roc reunion that would be dope as hell!

  11. nah theres plenty love for lecrae, dude been makeing marks. people act like he new tho, lecrae BEEN out but until his rehab cd hit number 1 people didnt take notice. dudes a beast. i also think tech and kendrick killed shit along with the shady crew

  12. In a nutshell:

Tier A: Em, Royce, Budden, Crooked I, Kendrick, Tech N9ne

Tier B: Big Krit, Yelawolf, Luda, Meek Mill, Rick Ross, Busta (being generous).

Tier C: MGK, B.o.B., Skillz, Stalley, Wale, Pill, 2 Chainz

Tier D: Lady of Rage, Dom Kennedy, Blind Fury, Reek Da Villain

    1. Em’s verse wasn’t as eye-opening as it was in 2009 on the first listen, but on the second listen its clear he’s spitting probably better than he ever has. That last string of multis was godly.

      1. Em’s verse in 09 was ok but I felt it was overrated, this one deserves all the hype. And yeah that last part was crazy! I’ve been playing it back all day

  13. am I the only one that is somewhat alarmed that Breezy, a fucking RnB artist had one of the better flows of the cyphers?

Estelle went on to prove that the transition isn’t nearly as easy for everyone as it was for him. lol. She’s done better than that though…

  14. 1st cypher: Machine Gun Kelly almost derailed it completely, but this was a pretty entertaining cypher otherwise, with KRIT doing some ill shit and Tech N9ne flowing like its nothing. Kendrick disappointed me though, but B.o.B. showed he can rap even though his albums are SHIT.

2nd Cypher:Busta is still one of the most technically able rappers out there, but he proved to be a fine punchline rapper here for once, outshining everyone in his cypher.

3rd Cypher: Lady of Rage is still an expert rapper, but Skillz and Blind Fury is boring as fuck, Dom Kennedy is AWFUL plus boring, which is an unusual mixture in rap.

Maybach: Wale does fine, but he’s immediately blown out of the water by Stalley and Pill, plus Meek Milly is so underrated as a rapper, blows everyone out the water in the cypher. Oh, did Ricky rap? i forgot.

  15. Chris Brown & Friends: Ace Hood’s new album is much better than anything else he’s done, but fuck his cypher is much much worse than the last one he did. Kevin McCall can flow, but his lyrics are pretty generic, and Tyga + Chris Brown = meh

Shady 2.0: oh god Yela destroyed it before it began. Especially being followed by the negativity of Joe Budden. Crooked I was a pleasant surprise for just showing up, and Royce and Em show their technical abilities in the proper format fantastically. oh and Joell Ortiz? awful.

  16. This solidifies MY OPINION that Eminem is the best rapper ever. (When I say best rapper I mean lyrics, not that unnecessary shit. i.e. Record sales, “swag”, money, awards)
Also he signed some of the highest ranking runner ups

    1. Em’ killed that thing at the end. (Fa Sho). Below is just sumthin’ I been thinkin’ and found an outlet in this reply to your response.
      _
I’ve been thinkin’ (cuz sometimes I listen to Slim Shady LP and Marshall Mathers LP), that the old ‘storytellin’ Eminem is better. He upped his lyrical game over the years fa sho, but I like those crazy stories he came out tellin’ in his early albums more. I personally don’t want him to be just another ‘bragging’ rapper’ (although lyrical).
      _
Eminem to me is at his best with verses like the one he did on “Dead Wrong” and songs like “Brain Damage”. U never forget those crazy ass stories.

        1. It’s a lot of bragging man. Bad Meets Evil follows a total different format from Em’s best material. (‘The Reunion’ is the only story song and (They actually made a song about people downloading their music for free.. C’mon now, that’s not Eminem.) Em’s earlier material makes you laugh man.
          _
Compare beginning of Slim Shady LP versus beginning of Bad Meets Evil [four bars each]:
          _
          ‘My Name Is’
“Hi kids/ do you like violence?/ wanna see me stick nine inch nails through each one of my eyelids?/ wanna copy me and do exactly like I did?/ Try cid and get fucked up worst than my life is?/….
          _
          ‘Welcome 2 Hell’
“There’s a switch I flip, emotions cut off/ so cold I done froze my butt off/ And this ain’t even the tip of the iceberg yet, it’s like squirting a squirt gun in the ocean, f*** off”/ Other words I didn’t put a dent in the game i’ve yet to do/ As long as you have feelings to hurt, i’ll be around as long as you let me get to you/”
          _
It’s tight, but what happened to the Eminem that makes you laugh (Brain Damage) feel his pain (Cleanin’ Out My Closet) feel his passion (The Way I Am) and picture his crazy ass, funny ass stories (’97 Bonnie & Clyde’; ‘My Fault’; ‘Guilty Conscience’; ‘Kim’ and many others).
          _
All love though. Relapse and Recovery show great glimpses of the old Eminem.

          1. Haha, funny you’re suggesting somthin’ I already stated. “People change” (Thanks for another already stated fact). I’m speaking as a fan who had the Slim Shady LP on tape before he blew up. I don’t how many people can say that. (If you had it, then kudos. 4 real). Although he wasn’t well known, you couldn’t doubt his talent on the album (if you were listenin’ to it back then).
            _
There was No Way anyone could doubt his talent, even if he was a white boy on his first public hip hop album. Marshall Mathers LP and The Eminem Show were my favorite cds at the times that they came out. Presently Em’ is still a beast, but to me he’s starting to rap like everybody else (talkin’ shit).. just better at it. It’s still hip hop so I respect it.
            _
I can’t expect Em’ (or anyone for that matter) to go back to their old selves because we grow out of stuff. But as a fan, I get down with his storytelling songs more than his ‘talkin’ shit’ songs. Hate it or love it, but respect my opinion as coming from a fan. I know you’re being practical, but why suggest shit people already know and do.

          2. Uh…holy shit. You’re writing books on random shit that pops into your head…no one cares about any of that. You should be grateful anyone is even acknowledging your self-centered ass. Nowhere in your previous posts did you say that people change. That’s a perfectly valid piece of input into what you’re saying. Now stop putting words in people’s mouths. You’re having an entire discussion with yourself by making up arguments for people who just want to shut you up. This is some of the most obnoxious shit I’ve seen in a while, just because you’re so oblivious to how ridiculous you’re being.

          3. You don’t have to acknowledge any opinion I write. Way before you even responded I wrote that I was bout to let off some thoughts I had concerning the topic. I’m not gonna argue with you dude because you are not speaking to add anything to the topic. When I wrote that Em changed his format from mostly storytellin’ to a lot of tight bragging, it was inferred that he changed (people change). Are you just reading words or seeing the underlying messages I am saying? Anyway forget it homie because I am going to state my opinions on topics that I feel a certain way about, and then move on. Not random thoughts, but things I been thinkin for a minute. When I see an outlet I let the thoughts loose. Other than that, no point in talkin’ shit to you over the internet.

          4. Nobody’s talking shit but you, man. If you want to have your little schizophrenic conversation with yourself, go ahead. But next time don’t be hostile with me, because I don’t take that shit lightly.

          5. The way I see it, we’re even man. Your first comment to me was hostile. I responded to that and told you to respect my comment as coming from a fan of Em. You came back taking more jabs, so I told you I won’t go back and forth because it wasn’t even about the topic no more. There’s real stuff going on in the world man. Internet beef is not worth it man. I gotta question whether you are even a real dude or not for gettin’ heated on here like that. I write on here for the sake of real debate and building on a topic.
            _
I got more positive things to say about my dude Eminem. My aim wasn’t to be too critical of the dude, just expressing my thoughts on his music today. I actually like the Relapse album. It’s a throwback to the old Em. The other Eminem thread is popping right now at:
            https://nappyafro.com/2009/08/03/eminem-will-never-be-the-g-o-a-t/.
            _
So i’ll probably write on there.
            _
I’m also about to check out some of these dime breezy’s in the Certified Bangers section. peace homie.

  17. Yeah man this always happens I always forget how good Em really is, then he hits me over the head again with shit like this. As far as rappers out now he definently killing cats like Wayne and Jay as far as skillz
