          1. I don’t fuck wit story albums unless your actually telling a story. Like with a setup, plot, climax etc. The tracks on undun could be on an Roots album so I ignored the fact that it’s a “story”. The music is still just so good though so it ends up not being a problem.

    1. Exact reason I didn’t name one… I would have to sit down and do calculus to pick one lol. But it’s definitely not CSAH

        1. Common *Yes I know it came out later but still*
Game album wasn’t that bad. I didn’t like every song on Phonte, I did like most though. If 2Pac new album would have came out it would have automatically made the list for me and I would buy two damn copies of that bitch.

    1. I loved Charity at Home, but I felt that there wasn’t enough standouts midway through to be named AOTY. Still a good pick though. I’m not hating.

  1. I just noticed something…Jay-Z didn’t make an appearance in this year’s awards…HOW DID THAT HAPPEN? LOL

    1. You ain’t lying man I like Ross too but they be bugging out for real with this Man Of The Year stuff. If anything I understand if they would have said Jay-Z or somebody of that nature who actually released an album.

    2. Like it said in the breakdown, dudes still trying to make songs Ross did in 2010 (Ross included). Can you count how many songs sounded like “BMF” or “MC Hammer” in 2011?

  2. Fear of God sucked balls as much as Pusha T is a good rapper. switch that with Killer Mike’s Pl3dge or  Step Brothers. The album of the year should probably be Section.80, but i can understand the choice.

Ross for man of the year though? REALLY? Dude didn’t even put an album out.

  3. I for one believe that undun is one of the best conceptual hip hop albums of all time. People shouldn’t hate for not understanding the story. It’s painted more like a Tarrantino movie where it doesn’t go in chronological order, but each track (like each scene) helps describe the character  more and more. It took me several spins to truly appreciate how powerful the record actually is. The story is supposed to be challenging just like the life of Redford Stevens. Another thing to point out about the album is there are no interludes. A Prince Among Thieves is a classic concept, but there are more interludes than actual songs on there. The Roots could have took that escape route too, but it would’ve taken credit away from the music. Production wise, one of the only hip hop albums that has an actual band doing the beats (not one person using a beat machine). That gets overlooked too many times. Lastly, Black Thought killed it. Lyrically, this is in a stage of it’s own.

To our fans, it didn’t get the most votes for AOTY, but it did get the most first place nominations with three. This is true hip hop, give it a chance.

    1. But you never knew the story. You never know Redford Stevens. It’s too loosely connected to even feel as if he was a real person we should care about. That’s my problem. The music is amazing tho.

        1. I listened close enough… Any more looking and I’m reaching for something that’s not there. The verses describe the problems of young black men in this generation, but not this Redford character. If there’s a story to it feel free to tell me how it goes.

  4. Good list! Rozay killed 2010 AND 2011. Like I say, he may just pop up in my Top 5 a few years down the line..
But where’s a mention of C4?? lol…alright, that was a joke, but I thought Red Album was better than Take Care

  5. MMG? how’d that happen? Ross over Weezy? iono…I probably should have spoke up during the voting but I’d say Weezy, even if I like Ross better.

  6. Alot of hot shit dropped for 2011, but the one thing Im sure about (and Im not hating, cuz I loved tha album) Charity Starts At Home fell below as AOTY compared to other albums, especially if u look into underground shit…To me I could say undun or DEFINITELY Section 80 makes AOTY. Watch The Throne deserves good credit, but it still doesn’t fit my taste though…

  7. I’m gonna be real with y’all, undun might have actually won ‘Album Of The Year’ for us. It’s my mistake because after I finished the graphic up above, Arkitekt sent his vote in. Some people didn’t vote for every category, so I figured he may sit this one out. But what I forgot was that Ark is on a totally different time zone that me. So, I may have to go back and change some things after recounting the votes. My bad.

    1. What is so funny to me, I haven’t listened to the Roots album all the way through yet. SMH @ myself. I’ll make sure I get to that ASAP so I can really judge. The first two songs start the album off well. Honestly I’m surprised you didn’t automatically put Watch The Throne as Album Of The Year
