Tying The Knot: A Guide To Ties

The Lounge Header-The Knots

The Four-in-Hand Knot:

The four and hand knot is the most common knot because it’s the easiest to learn and usually always works. It’s also the easiest knot to put a dimple in (more on that later). Works best with narrow collar shirts.

The Half Windsor Knot:

The Half Windsor is the office look of choice and works great if you have a thicker tie.

The Full Windsor Knot:

The thickest knot you can tie, the Full Windsor again is for spread collars and broad faces. This is for when you really want to make a statement.

The Pratt Knot:

While the Four and Hand is the easiest knot to tie, for the inexperienced it can often be hard to make it sit straight and symmetrical. The Pratt Knot is for those who are a little more OCD.

The Bow Tie:

As I know from experience, this isn’t something you want to try 10 minutes before your meeting or date. This will take a little more time to master.

Remember, sometimes perfection comes from imperfection. Sometimes perfect knots make you look a little too uptight; sometimes (not always) it’s good to have a crooked knot or be a little off. That’s how you add your own personal touch.
