Most of the time when I do these recaps of WWE pay-per-views I try to speak on a few things (SO MANY THINGS HAPPENED), but this go around I’m only talking about the main event. Expect an episode of The FRO Horsemen in the near future though. Until then, and after reading this recap, go over and see how well we predicted Wrestlemania XXXI (Spoiler Alert: We did terrible)
Wrestlemania XXXI. Holy shit. If you want to know the plan of ‘How to remove the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from Brock Lesnar without him actually losing’, WWE answered that question on Sunday night during the Brock Lesnar versus Roman Reigns match.
This match almost felt like a true sequel to the ass kicking Brock gave to John Cena at last year’s SummerSlam. And just like then, this match started with a F5 giving Brock the advantage early. I lost count of how many suplexes Brock game Roman (Even though the crowed and Paul Heyman counted along), but it was up there. And just like Cena in the SummerSlam match, Roman showed resilience and kicked out multiple finishes.
But unlike the SummerSlam match, Roman Reigns got to have a true offensive comeback. Reigns delivered multiple Superman Punches and Spears. But it wasn’t enough to defeat Brock.
And then Seth Rollins came out.
I had no idea that you could cash in a Money In the Back briefcase while a match was still progress. I also didn’t know that the match then turns into a triple threat. I guess Seth knew this because he went on to hit the Curb Stomp on everybody and then pin Roman Reigns to become to new WWE World Heavyweight Champion (Also becoming the first MITB winner to cash in a Wrestlemania).
Was this a better option than having Roman Reigns win? I think so. They crowd was booing the shit out of Reigns and I’m sure the WWE didn’t want a repeat ending of this year’s Royal Rumble. Plus with Seth a champion, there are so many possibilities (Like Brock going babyface).
