Cardi B – “Imaginary Playerz” [Video]

I saw online that Cardi B’s second single from her (much-delayed) sophomore album, Am I the Drama?, samples Jay-Z’s “Imaginary Player.” Not only is “Imaginary Player” a classic Jay-Z track, but it’s also one of my favorites (it’s on the nappyafro Official Playlist for a reason).

After listening to and watching Cardi B’s new music video for “Imaginary Playerz,” I’ll admit it’s not bad. The production and Cardi’s rhyme scheme stick close to the source material, and I’m fine with that. She sounds good here, talking her shit. I’m not sure how well this will do as a single, but I appreciate it.

The visuals, directed by Cardi and Patientce Foster, are standard fare for the Bronx rapper: she looks glamorous, raps on the wing of a private jet, lounges on a yacht, rocks expensive clothes and jewelry, and more. It all fits the vibe of the song.
