Joe Budden – “Unthinkable (Freestyle)”

Seeing as how Budden killed the instrumental to Rhianna’s “Russian Roulette” (I listed it as one of my favorites for 2009), I’m glad to see him try his hand at Alicia Keys’ awesome track “Unthinkable”. After listening, it seems like Joey has a talent for spitting over R&B beats…well, good ones at least. I also included Pill’s freestyle over Usher’s “Lil’ Freak” (Another R&B beat that’s crazy).

  1. Yeah PIll was spitting good shit on the Lil’ Freak track, but refrain from singing though P I double L. I dont’ think the track suited him too well though, idk why.

Joey does good on the R&B tracks for some reason.

  2. Pill is a cool dude. For some reason though, I can’t sit through a whole mixtape from him. He definitely has bangers though.

    1. I know, I mean he’s got nice lyrics, and if he’s over a good production, I’m definitely gonna listen. But todays mixtape circuit got me spoiled, with all these unknowns giving us all original productions, unlike Pill who usually raps over other peoples beats (Nice choice cuts though, liked the Diamonds from sierra leone one, or Drivin’ Down The Block)

But he’s just someone I can’t hear over everyones beats all the time. His mixtapes need some concept, not just sprawled out songs.

      1. Yeah, that is one of the main reasons. He really needs to have a lot of original production. But for some reason, I still have a hard time going back to his music like that; even with the original cuts.

I think my favourite verse of his is on “Womb 2 The Tomb”, he went iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin that track! Also, I really liked his freestyle over Nas’ “Got Yourself A…”, dude japped out on that.

Overall though, he cool. I’ll see what I really think about his music as he progresses.

        1. “Ayo I can’t be hospitable, because this shit ain’t profitable…”

Pill went ham (no pun intended) on that verse, and that’s what made me a believer. Freddie Gibbs, I’m sorry, but Pill just killed you with those openers, and then some.

Pill is a cool dude, maybe when his next mixtape comes out, with the record deal, he has to have some money for the mixtapes.
