Drake – “Headlines” [Video]

Drake drops the music video for “Headlines”, the first single off Take Care, and to be fair it’s pretty clean (The Blue Jays’ Exhibition Stadium shots are pretty dope). He’s also reppin’ his OVO crew hard here. I wouldn’t be surprised if whenever Drizzy’s contract runs out with Young Money/Cash Money, he’ll probably start his own thing (Especially with Lil’ Wayne’s recent “I’m the guy’s boss” comment). I’m not saying Drake isn’t happy with Birdman & Slim, but with October’s Vey Own doing festivals & selling clothes to even being represented on his new album cover, it just seems like it’s in the cards.

Oh, but yeah, the “Headlines” music video is good. Directed by Lamar Taylor & Hyghly Alleyne

  1. Maybe the rumors of Drake leaving YM, and going to Roc Nation weren’t so outrageous after all.

Great video. Not really feeling the song. What he needs right now is a song showing how talented of a rapper he truly is again. People forget about “Ransom” “Still Fly” and a bunch of other songs.

  2. This right here is the realest shit I’ve heard all day, and possibly in my entire life. I’m not a fucking Drake fan, but I was at one point, and hearing him acknowledge ALL the shit that people say about him and dislike him for is very surprising and refreshing, although seeing him do it makes sense. He never could have been as stupid and un-self-aware as it seemed over the last few years.

  3. Yeah it is a good video I can’t front and the song is actually alright.. See I don’t hate Drake that much even though it seem like I do. I do like certain songs from him but overall his depressing shit and singing annoy me though. He don’t fit the Cash Money/ Young Money sound to me. I think he is better off being on another label.

  4. Seriously though…dude needs to shut the fuck up about catching bodies and killing people and all that. We get it, you have probably acquired an entourage. But when you are the dude in a wheelchair on the most effeminate show the great state of Canada has to offer, you really can’t be saying that.

    1. quoting my nigga King Jerm “I prefer my rappers lie to me.” This shit IS entertainment. Why do folks get so upset about this shit from only certain rappers? Biggie lied, Eminem ALWAYS lies, The Clipse lie, it’s all entertainment.

      1. Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t know one person’s opinion applied to everyone. Regardless of that, you’re misunderstanding what I said. As far as I can tell, he isn’t lying…when you’re that famous and well-liked, it’s easily possible that people around you WOULD kill someone for you. But regardless of whether or not it’s true, he shouldn’t be talking about it. It would be the most bitch-made move in history if he actually had someone in his entourage catch a body. This dude’s entire image and reality – his entire upbringing – make it wrong for him to do something like that.

      2. I don’t like hearing that type of thing from Drake not only because of that, but because he does it badly. Those lines do not fit well in the song, and stick out so much because they don’t seem genuine. Everything else he’s saying is incredibly genuine, and then he fucks it up by saying he’s gonna kill people. He would never do that, and it shows.

      3. Yeah but Drake is SINGING in his soft ass voice about killing people.. That’s almost oxymoronic

“We don’t believe you, you need more people”
        And a deeper voice

      4. I have to agree with everybody else about the Drake part. I just don’t take him serious even if he had a gun in his hands threatening to shoot it, I still won’t believe him. Hearing him singing about that stuff just don’t sound right coming from him. He don’t have no hard bone in his body and plus he is not brought up like that. He probably never struggled or know how it is to be around some real shit. He do better by singing about his broken heart and stuff. I’m not a Drake fan but I do like some of his songs though, only some…..

        1. Once again, if you listen to the lyrics, he’s talking about metaphorically killing a rapper. It’s not hard to see. Did anybody listen to the song? Anybody?

  5. Yall just be waiting to try this man. He’s talking about metaphorically killing a rapper… I mean if you were actually listening to the point of the song you would know. Drake aint that stupid to clown himself.

  6. Am I the only one who isn’t feeling this song as a single? It just doesn’t have a single feel to me and I really can’t see it being a hit.

    1. Yeah, I see what you’re saying. But…does Drake really need a hit single? He can throw out any mainstream trash like Over and throw his name on it and the dickriders will flock to it. This one is for the fans he stands to lose – the ones who liked So Far Gone but hated Thank Me Later. A much better purpose for a single.

      1. True about the dick riding part but I don’t really like this song and I really liked So Far Gone. I wanna hear more songs like “Closer” or “Say What’s Real” it seems like now all Drake does is drop ballads for the ladies and Wayne-esque bragging raps, I want to hear him speak on something important or at least how he feels! The only song I’ve felt from him all year is Club Paradise

        1. That doesn’t really make sense to me; I mean, he does use autotune unnecessarily in this song, but didn’t it seem like he was being real as hell here? I’m kind of envisioning him just going up to the mic and letting it all out. He talks about how he’s spent the last period of time drinking every night and being completely fucked up, which makes sense – that would explain the confusion and uncharacteristic dishonesty of most of his recent songs. He mentions how he needed someone to tell him he fell off, and that he used to brag but now his life really IS that way…this whole song seems to me like a confession in which he basically let everything out without worrying about how it would make him sound. He threw in a lot of acknowledgements of the sub-par quality of his recent music, as well as a brief summary of his life since So Far Gone, and a whole manner of other jumbled-up truths floating around in his head. To top it all off, he did it in that sing-song way that seems fairly natural coming from Drake. As far as I can tell, this shit is real as fuck. He’s identified what he has to do, which is to make quality music and bring back the honesty everyone appreciated on So Far Gone. Now we just have to see if he’ll come through.

          1. I’ll listen again, I know the lyrics weren’t bad but I don’t remember anything really making me be like “Woah! He said that?” and this whole “Rap for half a bar and sing the other half” routine is getting old and annoying to me, Drake didn’t always do that. On Room for Improvement and Comeback Season he rapped way more than he sang, even on So Far Gone he either just sang the hooks or had whole songs where he sang, he didn’t do this weird rap sing thing he’s doing now. It annoys me to be honest. Also I really dislike the beat to this song.

  7. “Soap opera rappers all these niggas sound like All My Children/ And that’s who you thinking is about to come and make a killing/ I guess it really is just me, myself, and all my millions
You know that they aint even got it like that/ You gon hype me up and make me catch your body like that

What part of “they said I got wack cause I was successful, but I still go hard and I’ll kill these niggas” did yall miss? That’s the concept of the entire song.
