The Artwork For Asaad’s “Boss Status”

I normally don’t do post like this, but with my utter disbelief at the above image, I just couldn’t help it. Now if you are like me at first glance you see what appears to be art depicting two men committing a homosexual act and you just kept it pushing without really investigating any further. It wasn’t until my homie hit me up asking me how I felt about two Hip-Hop legends being portrayed in such a way.

I’m not going to express my thoughts on this artwork, but I am more interested to spark conversation about this piece here on Fro’Nation. What do y’all think?

Check out what Aasad said about his song’s artwork:

Since the release of the artwork for my single, “Boss Status,” from my upcoming debut EP entitled, 006, there has been backlash going around. So, I want to take this opportunity to explain, in my own words, the picture depicting two artists, whom I consider to be legends and arguably the greatest to ever bless the mic, engaging in homosexual activity. We are now in the day and age where this is no longer considered a taboo. But that is not the main reason why I choose this picture. Throughout the inception of the music business, artists have been continuously cheated out of their royalties and bound by erroneous contracts that essentially ‘screw’ artists over. For the record, I did not intend to release this cover to disrespect the memory or the families of Mr. Tupac Shakur and Mr. Christopher Wallace. They have become iconic, speaking for those like myself, giving the ghetto and less privileged a voice as they spoke about so many different things that affect our culture. Shakur & Wallace started out as comrades, then the industry turned them into human guinea pigs. They were embattled in a music war which ultimately led to their untimely death. In no way am I looking for publicity from this cover. My music speaks for itself. People have the option to look, or not to. Journalists and bloggers will have the option to post this on their website if they choose to do so. Again, we don’t ask that you do, but no longer shall the industry control our destiny and turn our people against one another. We have a BIGGER mission in life to speak for those who don’t have a voice and create outlets where we can all be heard.

  1. This is some of the weirdest disrespectful artwork I ever seen. That’s all I can say about that. Nothing dope about this shit at all. I’m glad I don’t know the person who drew it.

      1. C’mon man nobody family want to see no shit like that and definitely the fans. If I knew the person who drew this I would want them to sign a waver at my gym so I can kick his ass in the ring or cage without me going to jail. You just don’t disrespect legends like that. These guys are dead and people want to do some shit like this, very disrespectful indeed. There is nothing that fucker can explain that can convince me otherwise. Fuck this artist and the person who drew it. I haven’t checked out the music because this piece of shit artwork. Fuck him

        1. So if the artwork was a bunch of bitches getting fucked by Biggie and Pac that would be ok?

I personally think this is disrespectful, but our society has began to accept homosexuality. So is it wrong because of the sexual nature or because Oac is ramming the fuck out of Biggie.

          No Homo

          1. Man it is just wrong. I mean I don’t have nothing against people who are into stuff like that to each it’s own and I respect everybody/plus I’m cool with anybody regardless of their sexual orientation but this right here is just ridiculous. I’ll rather see Pac & Biggie fucking bitches than to see 2Pac fucking Notorious BIG, that’s crazy. That is so gross and disgusting! Very tasteless. I don’t care what that artist say about this artwork he can’t not explain shit to me because I see what it is now. If he was going to do some artwork he should just leave the legends out of it, nobody don’t want to see that shit. A lot of fans out there have high respect for Pac & Big, the last thing they want to see is some shit like this. I’m sure if their mom’s see this shit they would be pissed off along with their friends and Biggie kids. I’m surprised nobody didn’t knock this guy block off for making that artwork like that and for coming up with a dumb reason for why he did it like this.

  2. I think a lot of people here will agree that it’s not the homosexuality that offends them but the fact that the images of fallen legends like Pac and Big should never be touched, especially to create controversy. Since we see everything on the net these days we have gotten used to the shock value. Our eyebrows aren’t as raised as they used to be. Whoever came up with this artwork knows that too so thought they had to do something so shocking people will pay attention. This goes beyond things like Lil B’s album title. It’s just disrespectful to the artists and their families.

  3. This is the most disrespectful, idiotic, and vain cry of hype I have ever seen. His reasoning had nothing to do with Pac of BIG. He used them completely for shock value. I’m appalled by this nonsense.
