“New Slaves” Debate: Is the Best Verse In Rap History Even The Best Verse On The Song?

New Slaves

It’s still a little too early to tell how history will remember Kanye West’s most recent album, Yeezus. Although enough time hasn’t passed to deem it a classic or a disaster, it’s easy to call it one of the most divisive albums (in terms of opinion) in recent memory, if not in all of musical history.

Yeezy, not content to only have a controversial album, took to his Twitter account last Saturday to make one of the boldest proclamations of his career:

Now personally, I loved this album, and have declared that Yeezus was THE album of 2013 (more on that next week.) All that being said, when I read Mr. West’s tweet and after I had a chance to think about it, I came to the same conclusion that Antonio Tarver came to when Roy Jones Jr. proclaimed he was the best boxer in the world, and Tarver said he wasn’t even the best boxer in Florida. For as swagged out and spazzed out as Kanye got on the verse, I think the first verse is actually the better one. After chopping it up with the boss man B-Easy, we both agreed that the “New Slaves” verse probably isn’t the greatest in rap history, but he did feel that the second verse was better. So we decided to pen down our opinions and open it up to FRO Nation and let you all decide: Which verse is better? – GQ-Blu
