With all the backlash following the release of the trailer for Zoe Saldana’s next film, it would be easy to go with another Nina Simone song like the last R&B Sunday. My WMAS Podcast partner, Kendrick, informed me that Mary J. Blige was initially attached to star in the upcoming Nina biopic. In light of that new info, my choice of which singer to highlight today was easy.
The hard part was picking which song. I could’ve gone with the no doubt classic, “Not Gon Cry” or her cover of Ms. Simone’s “Misunderstood”, but I went with one of my personal favorites from the Essence Music Festival staple (She’s there almost every year!), “All That I Can Say” from her 1999 album, Mary.
