Album Sales: Zayn, K. Michelle, & Young Thug

Zayn

It’s feels like it’s been a minute since I wrote about about album sales. And I guess that’s because it has. So long in fact that another Hip-Hop site has an album sales column also called The Numbers Game. That’s not shade or anything. I don’t even put The Numbers Game in the title anymore. I’m just saying. And rambling. Let’s go.

I guess you can consider former One Direction member Zayn Malik‘s solo career a success. His debut album Mind of Mine sold around 157,000 copies and now sits atop the Billboard charts. I’ll go ahead and be honest and say that I’ve never had any interest in Zayn’s solo career because I think we all know how this story goes: Young pop singer tries to shed kiddie image so he gets a caesar haircut and does R&B music. I do kinda fuck with the Lil’ Wayne inspired album cover though.

If nothing, it feels like K. Michelle is consistent. Yeah, her album titles are getting stupider but that doesn’t stop her fans from going out and buying them. Just like with 2014’s Anybody Wanna Buy a Heart?, K. Michelle’s new album More Issues Than Vogue also grabbed the #2 spot on the charts. It sold around 59,000 copies, which is down from her last outing but everybody’s sales (Not named Adele) are down in 2016

Young Thug finally dropped Slime Season 3. It landed at #7 and sold 38,000 copies, but like every time Young Thug put outs an official album (The ones that he puts up for sale), the results always seem underwhelming. Where are the Young Thug fans at? He just got some new teeth, will that help?
