DMX‘s song “How’s It Goin’ Down” will get a lot attention these days because of Drake and his recent use of the track on “U With Me?” off VIEWS. But every time I hear “How’s It Goin’ Down” I immediately think of the music video.
The Hype Williams directed music video for “How’s It Goin’ Down” is a classic and has all the tropes of a Hype Williams directed music video in the late 00’s. It’s basically 90% slow motion and fade transitions. I also remember being kinda pissed when I saw the video because the Faith Evans featured version wasn’t on It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot.
A few more thoughts:
- DMX driving. I’m pretty sure modern day DMX can never legally drive again.
- DMX sitting on a motorcycle and talking to his woman while she holds the hands of her two small children. REAL SHIT!
- DMX pushing his dog off so his woman can get on top of him. REAL SHIT!
- With my knowledge of old school music video models, I surprised I don’t know the name of the leading lady in this video.
- Seeing early versions of Eve, Drag-On, & Ja Rule.
- Remember the intro on the album version? “Whose dick you sucking?!”
