Album Sales: The Hamilton Mixtape & Childish Gambino

12th Annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards - Inside

As much as white people love the Broadway musical Hamilton, I guess it was forgone conclusion that The Hamilton Mixtape would be the #1 album in the country. Not to say that the project doesn’t deserve the top spot; I fuck with “Wrote My Way Out” heavy. The Hamilton Mixtape sold around 187,000 copies in it’s first week.

Childish Gambino, who just won at the Critics’ Choice Awards, surprisingly dropped the funk and soul inspired Awaken, My Love! and it had a good week and landed at #5. Awaken, My Love! sold around 101,000 units and if I’m not mistaken, that’s Gambino’s best week ever on the Billboard charts. Congrats Donald. Hopefully our album review drops sooner than later.

The Weeknd‘s latest album Starboy, which held the #1 spot last week, showed staying power this week by selling 150,000 units and holding steady at the #2 position. I probably need to listen to that album at this point.
