dead prez – Revolutionary But Gangsta Grillz [Mixtape]

When I first heard word about dead prez hooking up with DJ Drama to do a mixtape, I was intrigued. Why? Well, dead prez is probably my favorite Hip-Hop  group after Outkast. I still hold their second album, Revolutionary But Gangsta, as one my all time favorite. So while some older fans look sideways at M1 & Stic.man’s doing a Gangsta Grillz, I’m just happy they getting the look.

  1. I’m kinda lookin at this one sideways myself….is it just me, or are there a TON of mixtapes coming out this year. I can’t keep up with all of em. shit.

    1. Far From Over is nice. I’m definitely feeling M-1’s verse. Drake, stay in your lines kid.

“One thing bout music when it hits you feel no pain, ten years later
ain’t shit changed, but the players in the game
still ahead of the pack, ask drake he study my rap
matter of fact, i give to that, atleast he aint sellin no crack
so i take my flow right back, stop the beat
it doesn’t matter how many records they sellin
cause all this bullshit they yellin gonna start a hip hop rebellion
in the real world, don’t have no boundaries and fears
this word sounds power, that we be puttin in they ears
can change the real world, its bigger than diamonds in your necklace
we out here doin dope, tottin pistols, actin restless
in the real world, you cant just act like you dont care
cause what you gon have left in the fame and fortune disappears
if you a rapper, trapper, actor, finger-snapper, copy-cater, or a money gettin cracker
then just say it, but then if you a fake, snake, cake, claiming that you pushing weight
when you aint, do i really have to say it?”

      chorus is nice too

‘I know way too many people here right listening in to this mixtape, like who the fuck are ya
I swear it feels like the last few years in the mainstream, everyones forgot about reppin the cause
what are we doing? what are we doing? oh yea, what about Let’s Get Free? taking care of family?
this is a song of my life man, cause all i know to be is a soldier, for my culture, and it’s far from over”

  2. I was so hyped to see this. however after listenin’, I’m just ok with it.
it serves its purpose, a nice one time listen to keep DP fresh in your mind, but its not a classic.
I’ll forgive a bland hiccup from em cause I’m just glad these guys havent given up yet
