WWE & WWE Universe Really Need Cena/Ratings in the toilet

As much belly-aching we’ve all done about Cena and the relentless meal of Super Cena being served at every RAW and PPV in recent memory, he’s really all they’re committed to. As referenced earlier, with him gone, ratings have dropped, stories have fallen flat, and the folks that he’s really high on (Big E. Langston) have been lost and rendered useless. People love to boo Cena and the writers love the fact that when he’s there handling whatever story they give him, they can concentrate on the other stuff and hopefully do a good job with them. The mere mention of Cena vs. ADR at the HIAC PPV probably boosted buyrates, no matter what the internet smarks will have you believe.

Daniel Brian is a great moment right now, the crowd loves him, but WWE seems to have even lost the corporate angle that really made folks love Bry. Trips and Steph not being at the PPV is a horrible writing decision and the Big Show ruining the match was even worse.  I almost feel that Show is about to surpass D-Bry as a fan favorite right now because he “stuck it to the man.” ADR has held the World Title for a while now…too bad nobody cares. It’s all bad and lost right now and we may need Super Cena to come save the day. – Saule Wright

On this week’s Raw it was announced that John Cena would be returning almost THREE MONTHS early to challenge Alberto Del Rio for the Big Gold Belt at Hell in a Cell. While some are saying this could finally be the move to restore prestige to the World Heavyweight Title by putting it on Cena, I see it as a desperation move. Diehard wrestling fans know that Raw’s ratings suffer during football season when Monday Night Football is on, and this year has been even worse do to the poor performance Raw has been doing since switching to the 3 hour format. Throw in the fact that consecutive PPVs have been lackluster at best and you have to figure Vince is eager to get his golden goose back. While pumping Cena with deer antler spray laced with virgin blood to get him back may bring some quick cash in, this is ultimately a bad move. Just like Cena’s time away was meant to groom Daniel Bryan to be the next face of the company, creative should’ve been grooming guys like Dolph Ziggler, Antonio Cesaro and Damien Sandow into main eventers who could carry the B-belt and help shoulder the weight of the company. – GQ Blu
