Rich Homie Quan – I Promise I Will Never Stop Going In
Rich Homie Quan has a legitimate hit on his hands with “Type of Way”. It took a while for that song to grow on me, so maybe the same thing will happen with some of the songs on this tape. But for now, nothing here is really standing out that much to me. (Download)

Rich Kidz – West Side Story
This is pretty standard of-the-moment ATL rap. These are some of the worst lyrics I’ve heard all year and “Monifa” can’t be anything other than a “Versace” rip off. The beats are all cookie-cutter takes on southern sounds. (Download)

Young Jeezy – #ItsThaWorld2
This is really more of a CTE World mixtape than a Jeezy tape. YG and Doughboyz Cashout are featured prominently. The whole thing is only eight tracks long and nothing on here is really essential Snowman material. (Download)

Da Mafia 6ix – 6ix Commandments
Three 6 Mafia minus Juicy J are back as Da Mafia 6ix and they sound just a gruesome and dark as they ever have. Looking at rap today, Three 6 has had a huge influence on the sound of the game, and it’s interesting to see the contemporary rappers (aka people who grew up listening to Three 6) that they feature on this mixtape. But this stuff rivals guys like Chief Keef and Lil’ Durk in terms of dead-eyed nihilism, which means it’s not really my kind of rap. (Download)

Roc Marciano – The Pimpire Strikes Back
This is a strange mixtape. Roc Marciano’s voice is recorded really low in the mix and this isn’t helped by the fact that he sounds pretty deadpan throughout. He barely sounds excited to be rapping, there is almost no emotion in his bars. I’m not saying he needs to go all 808’s and Heartbreak on us but a little inflection wouldn’t hurt. Overall the wordplay is subpar but the most of the beats on this tape are nice. (Download)
