Album Sales: Drake Passes A Billion Streams + Kevin Gates Strikes Again

Drizzy

Drake is on a roll. Again. After releasing new music this past weekend, Drizzy is once again at the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart. VIEWS is the #1 album in the country for the fifth consecutive week with 152,000 copies sold (1,197,000 overall).

VIEWS is also has now generated more than 1 billion on-demand audio streams in the United States alone. A billion? Yeah. It joins the list of other albums that has crossed this mark which includes the likes of Justin Bieber’s Purpose (1.38 billion streams), The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness (1.31 billion steams) and, of course, Drake’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late (1.06 billion streams).

In the past I’ve mentioned Kevin Gates and the fact he surprisingly does well on the charts and it feels like not many people recognize it. I’m not even that big of a Gates fan but I respect his hustle. Either way, he released a retail mixtape last in the form of Murder For Hire 2. It grabbed the #12 spot and sold 27,000 copies. Oh yeah, he previous album ISLAH, which went Gold month ago, is als ocurrently at #19. Salute.

Beyonce‘s Lemonade is still doing damage and sold 79,000 units this week and sits at the #3 position. She is currently the only female to drop an album in 2016 that went Platinum. Slay.
