Album Backlog Vol. 3: Anderson .Paak, Black Thought, & J.I.D

I figured I would get another one of these posts out before 2019. As already explained, I listened to more albums that we can review. Like most people I have a iTunes playlist designated for albums I want to listen to and this is me clearing that out. Now let’s get back to clearing out the queue.

Anderson .Paak – Oxnard

I honestly wish I had time to give a proper review Anderson .Paak‘s third official studio album, Oxnard. I pretty much liked every track on the project. And it’s weird because the people I’ve talked to about the album didn’t like it that much. But yeah, I fucks with this album hard. “Tints” is still probably my favorite track but “6 Summers” is hard too. I’ll go with that one.

Black Thought – Streams of Thought, Vol. 2

Black Thought dropped another edition of Streams of Thought EP, this time replacing 9th Wonder with Salaam Remi. With fear of sounding like a Funkmaster Flex meme, this project is full of BARS. That strength also may be its problem. Black Thought can rap his ass off and Salaam Remi is still a good producer, but Streams of Thought, Vol. 2 is just about what you expect. I’m not gonna call it boring but I can see somebody feeling that way after a few listens. It’s worth checking out though. Check out “New Grit”.

J.I.D – DiCaprio 2

After hearing “Off Deez” with J. Cole, I thought DiCaprio 2 would be the project that would help J.I.D reach his potential. But for some reason the music just doesn’t connect with me. I got bored towards the end of the album. J.I.D is still talented though. Does it matter that I didn’t listen to the first DiCaprio mixtape? I wonder if Leonardo would’ve signed off on a real cover photo? Probably. Check out “Slick Talk”.
