Saturday Night ‘Fro: Dolemite (1975)

I watched Dolemite Is My Name last week because I wanted to see Eddie Murphy in a comedy again. The Craig Brewer-directed biopic about Rudy Ray Moore’s fight to make a film is one of the funniest movies I’ve seen this year. Murphy, Keegan-Michael Key, Mike Epps, Craig Robinson, Tituss Burgess, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph make up his team of friends/supporters/crew including Wesley Snipes as the uninterested director/co-star of the original film, D’Urville Martin.

Enjoy the 1975 independent hit, Dolemite, try to spot all of the lines and scenes that were used and referenced in 90’s and early 2000’s Hip-Hop and then watch Dolemite Is My Name and let me know if it is the best comedy on Netflix since Always Be My Maybe.
