FROCAST: Episode #24

If we still had actual titles for our FROCASTs, the one for Episode #24 would probably be “International”, “The Sweded Edition”, or maybe something having to do with The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Why? Because this week, nappyafro contributor (And our new homeboy) Eddy Baltazar calls all the way from Sweden to join the show. He hangs out with Saule Wright, King Jerm, & B-Easy to talk about Ozzie Guillen, the NBA playoffs, Nicki Minaj’s album sales, overhyped artists, Kanye West, & much, much more.

  1. Ya’ll straight up shitted on 2Pac I wanted to turn this shit off but I kept listening to the podcast. One of these days when I get me a headset I’m going to appear on one of these episodes just because of this. 2Pac, Nas overrated??? Man I don’t know what to say. I have to throw my hands up and walk away from my laptop after hearing that statement. I do agree with Jerm about Jay-Z being overhyped right now.

    1. P-Body, if I think Pac is overrated coz of his death. Like if he hadnt died I reckon his ‘greatness’ would gradually fade and he wouldnt be on the pedestal cats put him on today. Not taking shots at Pac or anything – am just callin it the way I see it.
If an artist (not just rappers) die at a point close to the zenith of their careers, people tend to make inaccurate predictions of their possible future based on said artist’s final works and potential at the time. That’s where the exaggerations and the ‘overrating’ stem from, I’d say…
Anyway, thats the beauty of opinions right?

      1. Yea we all have opinions but I don’t think nobody believe that. I was a Pac fan before he died and still is right now. I think with me it goes beyond the music from his life story to interviews and etc. Dude was intelligent as a mutha and you can still see the influence he have on the rap game right now. Nobody 2Pac got his style from somebody when he was the first with the tats, nose ring, spitting thug shit, and etc. There haven’t been a artist as real as him in a long time well besides Pimp C and Soulja Slim but they are dead too smh. I do say his death played a part in it but overall people loved Pac before he died. 1996 Pac was on top of the world while Jay-Z was grinding trying to make his name big. He was appearing on Saturday Night Live, Grammy’s, interviews, filming two movies and recording like a beast. Nobody work hard as Pac. Like Pac said on the interview before his death he said he get tired of rapping and he want to focus more on directing movies/acting possibly release a album once every 5 years like Paul McCartney did. So on that note you can only imagine how many more songs he would have in his vault and he would make sure he take it to another level each time. Look at the quality of work he was making especially Makaveli. The production on there alone is just sick. People say Pac would have fell off or whatever but nobody know that since he been dead almost 16 years now. If was still alive him, Jay-Z, Mobb Deep, Nas, Fugees and whoever would probably squash the beef but then again I don’t know… Outlawz say he squashed it with Nas and he was suppose to be on the unreleased One Nation album which would have been epic. Anyway I respect your opinion and good podcast

        1. I see where you coming from P-Body: Pac was way more than his music and that and his life story were influential to a lot of people. In as far as talent goes I will also not be arrogant and discredit his talent altogether.
I was just trying to say that when people measure his greatness they tend to predict stuff (If Pac were alive he would do this and that and the third).
While I reprimand people from increasing his value with such declarations of his ‘would-be’ continued greatness and impact in the game I also cannot assert the opposite in his ‘would-be future’.
Thus, judging from his music up until the point he died, and only till then, my opinion is that he is overrated.
Regardless of my opinion, I can put myself in your shoes and sympathize with your views (though not agreeing with them).
Finally, I appreciate the argument you make and I commend your ardor in defending your stance.

  2. Awesome podcast overall. Speaking of MC Hammer I still have the vinyl to Addams Family groove single, smh! I remember when my dad got out of jail and he bought me that album since he knew how much of a fan of Hammer I was (I was also a big Al B Sure fan too, I know I know smh). I use to be a big Hammer fan when I was real young and I even had the damn pants, smh @ myself. I can’t lie Vanilla Ice “Ice Ice Baby” was the shit but it sound so horrible now. Good shit guys

  3. Lol I’mll need to hop on a Frocast one of these days cuz yall shitting on rappers I love and Jerm’s championing Wayne’s mediocre shit (Da Drought 3 is hot but very overhyped.)  And I really don’t understand the hate towards Jay-Z’s later stuff.  People look at Kingdom Come and B3, but American Gangster was really good and Watch the Throne was good too.
Nas isn’t overrated, if anything he gets shitted on too much.
I agree with the Pac statement though.

    1. And everyone hates on Volume 1 but that’s definitely in Jay’s top 5 albums too me, I Know What Girls Like and The City Is Mine don’t change that.

  4. Lmao I changed my name because the name DandodaPirate93 sounds stupid to people that don’t know me. I think Negrodamus sounds better.
