2011 MTV Video Music Awards Recap x Performances [Videos]

Once again your boy B-Easy watched the MTV VMA’s this year (Still without cable) and once again I will give a recap of what wasn’t a terrible award’s show this year. Laptop with a good illegal stream? Check. Twitter page open? Check. Torrents in the background downloading Breaking Bad, Entourage, & True Blood? Triple Check Let’s go:

Before the VMA’s even started, the world was hit with a bombshell at the pre-show: Beyonce announced she was pregnant. She obviously finally listened to “New Day” off Watch The Throne. Hottest womb in the game.

Lady Gaga opened the show as Ralph Macchio Gentleman Gaga Jo Calderone and performed “You And I”. She didn’t drop character for the rest of the night.

Kevin Hart acted like he had the opening monologue the host usually gets but since the VMA’s had no host this year, it wasn’t. He would have been the first person to host the BET Awards AND the VMA’s in one year. Damn.

Nicki Minaj & Slim Jonah Hill present Britney Spears with Best Pop Video Award. What the fuck did Nicki have on though?

Jay-Z & Kanye – “Otis”

This was suppose to be a surprise performance but we all saw this coming. The performance was just like the last time Jay-Z rapped at a MTV show because someone ran on stage again (Though it wasn’t Lil’ Mama this time). Also, the sneakerheads were all fainting as Kanye was wearing the new Air Yeezy 2’s (I’m not into sneakers so somebody had to point this out to me). Sidenote: Y’all niggas better be happy I didn’t give Watch The Throne 5 Stars. If I was to review it again, I would.

Best Rock Video goes to Foo Fighters. I fucks with Dave Grohl.

The “Future” Beastie Boys (Will Ferrell, Jack Black, & Seth Rogen) have a dance off with Odd Future.

Nicki Minaj‘s “Super Bass” win Best Hip-Hop Video? Huh? Then again, “Look At Me Now” & “The Show Goes On” was also nominated, so whatever. Nicki also gave a shoutout to Weezy calling him “The Greatest Rapper Alive”.

Katy Perry & Kanye West win Best Collaboration Video with “E.T.”. Kanye explained to Katie that this wasn’t his first Moonman.

Pitbull & Ne-Yo Perform “Give Me Everything”

I’ve never heard this song in my life nor do I co-sign this techno/Jersey Shore shit. But since Lindsay Lohan suing him over it, I had to post it. Plus, some of the backup dancers were kinda thick.

Adele – “Someone Like You”

I fucks with Adele.

Kim Kardashian presents Justin Bieber the Best Male Video Award for “U Smile.” Isn’t she suppose to be on a honeymoon or some shit? Media. Whore.

Chris Brown – “Yeah 3X”/”Beautiful People”

Breezy came out in all white, sprinkled in some Nirvana & Wu Tang, and shitted on Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. Good job.

Gentleman Gaga returned to give Britney Spears the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award (Wait. Isn’t Britney Spears like 29?). Britney & Gaga almost kissed and then introduced Beyonce.

Beyonce – “Love On Top”

Baby in the womb or not, Beyonce killed it. She even undid her jacket and rubbed her belly at end. Jay-Z is a proud poppa. See:

Tyler The, Creator won Best New Artist. He’s excited. His mother was excited. I’m happy for him.

I’ve never heard of Young The Giant or their song “My Body”. I thought they said Human Giant at first then I got excited. But I was let down.

Cloris Leachman comes out with the women of Jersey Shore. Which one is this chick? Just asking.

Gentleman Gaga wins Best Female Video

They do a Amy Winehouse tribute but instead of letting Adele sing a Winehouse song, they get… Bruno Mars? They do show a clip of a Tony Bennett & Amy Winehouse duet so that was kinda cool.

They show a preview of The Hunger Games movie. I’m excited. Yea, I read The Hunger Games so what? Shout out to Katniss Everdeen.

Video Of The Year goes to Katy Perry for “Firework”. I wish Tyler or Beastie Boys would have won but I honestly didn’t care.

Drake comes outta nowhere, sweater and all, and introduces Lil’ Wayne for the show closer

Weezy comes out with an Auto-Tuned microphone and did “How Love To Love”. I still hate that song but not as much as I hate those pants? (What the fuck Wayne?) Thankfully, he also performed “John”. I would have like to see Ross come out but Weezy did go out in the crowd to show Rozay love. All bullshitting aside, this is great promo for Tha Carter IV (Which went on sale at midnight on iTunes right after the show went off).

And that was the show.

  1. Tell me Tyler the Creator and Odd Future didnt add an assload of personality to these awards tho………other than that it was pretty dry

  2. Did niggas really cop Carter IV??…but anyways WTF was that How To Love performance? You call yourself a “gangster” yet we doing this bullshit? Mainstream Hip-Hop has gotten soft as fuck

    1. Music is entertainment — If the music good – I’m good.

Dj Lp – U really dont like his music is fine – but I do think you find youself in the minority between the streets and internet hip hop geeks that hate on his music. I’m fan of hip hop – I agree Lil Wayne does some questionable shyt – but I’ll let music do the talking – for alot of my favorite artist I do not agree with their lifestyle and opinions – But I love goiod hip hop music…

Looking fwd to J. Cole album next; until thn I’m bangin WTT album & CIV.

      1. Don’t get it twisted my bro. I like Wayne when he actually puts out good music. But when he puts out stuff like “How to Love” and stuff like that then I must dislike. Can’t give my opinion on C4 because I’m waiting to cop physical copy(I always find myself waiting for the physical copy when its available for download alot lately)

      2. The reason I asked if they really copped that Carter IV is because some members tend to have a bad history of actually copping albums compared to downloading *no shots*

        1. I feel ya! I’m jump the gun a bit.

Desptie the leggings Wayne was wearing (WTF moment last nite-lol) – I think people just don’t like Wayne – I get a little defensive when people hate on Nas personel life bc he sucka for love and attack his music – or Jay Z wack bc is not in the hood no more – people just 4get to enjoy the music. We can be critics – but alot folk (me included somewhat) over analyze the music and 4 get to enjoy the music. I think thats killing hip hop. But feel ya! Real recognize real fam!

  3. When I was streaming this show last night it had mad pixels plus I wasn’t wearing my glasses but once I actually seen a clear photo of Lil Wayne attire I’m like “WTF! Is that shit?”. Man dude has changed from the Hot Boys days, its not even funny. One minute he is a gang banger and now he is a rocker. I think Wayne is confused and I like Wayne. How he become a gang banger in his mid 20’s when New Orleans don’t even have no damn gangs…. Especially no Bloods & Crips, they have wards though.

Gaga is talented I don’t care what nobody says but I wasn’t feeling her attire myself. Adele I fuck with her music, she is dope as fuck.

I’m actually happy for Beyonce & Jay-Z to be honest. One thing I have to say and I know this is old but didn’t Jay-Z say in a old interview he never wanted to have kids? Then again I can’t expect him to have the same mentality he had when he was in his 20’s and early 30’s.

Chris Brown had a good performance I thought.

I’ll smash Brittney Spears, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, and Kim Kardashian though..

I’m actually happy to see Tyler to win even though I’m not really a fan of his.

Overall I thought the performances they had was good. I don’t really watch award shows much since it is a lot of politics and we all know who is going to win anyway.

    1. Forreal? It wasn’t that good for me to buy. I haven’t bought a Lil Wayne album since 2000 when he dropped Lights Out.
