2008 Songs Of The Year (Staff Picks)

songsoftheyear2008

At first we were gonna do a recap this year’s most notable songs featured in our Song of the Week column. But seeing how some of the songs weren’t actually made in 2008, it really wouldn’t have worked. So instead of voting for a single “Song of the Year”, we thought; “Why not just let each staff member pick their favorite 5 songs of the year?” So here they are. No voting. No debates. Just each staff member picks for their 5 favorite songs of 2008. And surprisingly, there’s a lotta Killer Mike, Jay Electronica, & Lil’ Wayne. Who knew?

  4. Wow, really EdHardyWearingDouchebag!? Think about what you just commented (the Wal-Mart of Hip Hop!!!???!) and think again. The category was songs of the year. A “song of the year” is a song that’s remembered as being the biggest of that year and those were the songs that I thought were some of the biggest of the year.

Originally I had picked 10 top songs (5 commercial/mainstream and 5 underground). I don’t know what songs you think are the best songs of 2008, but those songs that I picked were definitely some of the biggest songs of the year. The official “Lollipop” video on YouTube has 25+ million views…how the hell isn’t that a song of the year!!!???! Like H2O said, where’s your list, go ahead and post one so we can see what you think. I guess UGHH.com is the “Wal-Mart of Hip Hop” since that’s where I purchase a lot of my music at…when it’s definitely one of the realest Hip Hop websites on the net.

Don’t come leaving some stupid dumb comment like that about a category that based off our “personal” picks and opinions of the top songs. Leave that shit in ’08 fam…we ain’t trying to deal with that in ’09.

      1. That Roth Boys is nice. That shit makes me laugh everytime I hear it. And I like that track “Dey Know Asher”. It hits like a mufucka. But overall I just see him as a Eminem stan, but on a lower level.

  5. I agree with DGAF this is hard as hell, so i decided to put up songs i think people slept on instead of songs of the year:

    Rick Ross – Luxury Tax
    Bun B – Another Soldier
G Unit – Casualties Of War, No Days Off (THOSE ARE BANGERS IMO)
David Banner – Suicide Doors (This came out in 2007 like 9mm but it was so good i had to put it up here)
Young Jeezy – Word Play (I love that soulful beat with Jeezy’s raspy voice, no homo)
    Kanye West – Amazing

If i had to name out songs that stuck out i’d be here all day so not happening, those are just ones i think should be HEARD by everyone!

  6. My list:

    Lil Wayne- A Milli
    Nas – Fried Chicken
Ludacris – Last of a Dyin Breed
Brooklyn We Go Hard – Jay-Z
    JAda & Wayne – Deathwish
